Real experience, practical perspective, and a focus on helping you make better decisions
California Expat exists to give you a clearer, more grounded understanding of what life in the Philippines is actually like.
There is no shortage of content about the Philippines. What is harder to find is practical guidance based on real experience, not short visits or surface level impressions.
This platform is built to help you think clearly, avoid expensive mistakes, and build a life that actually works.
I'm John. I incorporated my first company in the Philippines in 2019 and moved here full time in January 2020.
Since then I've started multiple businesses and built teams across offices in Cebu and Davao, with Manila coming soon.
I also created Bridgehouse, a weekly community dinner where 40 to 70 expats come together regularly.
Between the businesses and Bridgehouse, I work with expats from all over the world every single day.
I've watched hundreds of foreigners go through the process of moving here.
Some planned well and built something great.
Some didn't plan at all and it cost them years and thousands of dollars.
Everything shared through California Expat is based on real experience living and working in the Philippines.
This comes from building a life here, running businesses here, and seeing how things actually play out over time.
This is grounded, practical guidance for people making real decisions
The goal of California Expat is simple.
Help you understand what life here is actually like and make better decisions along the way.
